Innovative automation solutions and tastes from the fair

Attending a trade fair is a unique program number at the company’s annual sales events. Servicepoint participated in two fairs this year: Subcontracting Fair in Tampere on 24-26 September and the Technology19 event in Helsinki 5-7 November. At both fairs, we exhibited Universal Robots collaborative robots and the robust use of the robot.

Servicepoint participated previously in the Subcontracting Fair 2017 at the KUKA joint stand, which was a successful event at that time. This year, besides customer visits, we took the fair and selected Subcontracting and Technology19 inspired by the fair’s themes and target audience. In addition, the fair took place in the autumn and was suitably timed almost sequentially.

Servicepoint, together with several companies, participated in the Subcontracting Fair in the joint stand of the TechnoGrowth project. This allowed companies from Northern Savonia to display their engineering and automation expertise. The theme of the fair for 2019 was sustainable manufacturing, and we wanted to bring it to the fore with smart and innovative cobot solutions. Cobots are easy to use and almost maintenance-free, allowing for a secure piece handling and flexible production capabilities, so the choice fits well into the theme.

“Starting automation with a cobot does not require a lot of investment and the cobot can execute several tasks from machine tending to quality inspection. Suitable gripper or camera can easily be attached to the cobot, and the robot itself can be attached to a mobile transport platform or part of a small palletizing or machining unit”, says Marko Härkönen, sales manager of maintenance services at Servicepoint. “The fair had a good atmosphere and the interest in smaller robots was positive”, Härkönen continues.

The traditional Technology event takes place every two years and this year’s theme was human, responsibility, and technology. Servicepoint had its own stand and the main attraction was the cobot mounted on EasyRobotics ProFeeder. The cobot had been programmed to pick up various items. “Fairs often have a lot of pick and place applications where goods move from place A to place B in a straightforward manner. We wanted to showcase a Pick-it 3D camera mounted on a Universal Robots cobot that picks up a piece but the pieces don’t have to be neatly stacked”, says Olli Kemppinen, sales manager for automation products and services at Servicepoint. “The biggest benefit of a camera is its flexibility. Many systems require predefined paragraph dimensions. With the Pick-it camera, items can be stacked on a tray, and the camera recognizes and distinguishes items with advanced 3D technology”, Kemppinen explains.

Part identification and processing are one of Servicepoint’s strengths in building an automation solution for customers who often serve in fast-moving production and demanding production environments. Our comprehensive automation solutions address the challenges of streamlining production and strive to bring operational and production security to our customers.
