Suspected fake cancer drugs found in Finnish hospitals

Suspected fake cancer drug was found in Finnish hospitals and had been given to nine patients. The Finnish Medicines Agency Fimea has now inspected the local pharmaceutical wholesaler which had distributed the said drug and found problems in quarantine procedures. The wholesaler in question has had severe problems with the ramp-up of their new ERP system since last September, resulting in drug shortages and supply problems around Finland during the last fall. In the end, analysis resulted in finding the drug authentic, just with defects in labelling.

This is exactly why the European Union, USA, Russia, China and others are taking steps to protect their people from serialization and track & trace solutions. With EMVS in place, the risk-based verification would have already been done by the wholesaler. This would have saved time and money from all parties, in addition to protecting the brand value.

There is still a lot of work yet to be done to implement the required serialization technology and services at the pharmaceutical manufacturers, CMO/CPOs, re-packagers and parallel importers, pharmacies, as well as the national-level systems (NMVOs). The deadline is only a year away — hurry up and ask us for professional help if your implementation work is not well underway!

We at Servicepoint are happy to help manufacturers, packagers, and wholesalers get the required systems built and running. We are already working at many manufacturer units ranging from Spain to Russia, from Finland to Greece.
